Ben Loyns – Under 12 Go Karting Championship
It was a great success and we raised over £2,500 for the Joe Glover Trust.
The event at Eastleigh Indoor Go Karting Track was run by Racing Perfections Steve Bell who did a fantastic job coordinating the training, heats and then the Grand Final. We had 22 children enter the competition, made up from Ben’s School mates and friends. The event was organised so each competitor had two 10 minutes practise runs (with coaching and tuition from Steve Bell) and then the competition began which was made up of two timed qualifying heats followed by a grand final for the six fastest children. Dean Stoneman (2010 FIA F2 Champion) attended the event and handed out the trophies and prizes to the winners at the end. This was particularly poignant and impressive as he is currently taking a break from racing this year to receive treatment for Cancer. So we are very grateful that he took the time to come along and support this event and wish him the best of luck with his fight against cancer.
The event was a really fun and exciting way to pay tribute to Ben, on what would have been his birthday weekend, and to raise money for such a worthwhile cause. As you know from previous discussions, Ben loved Go Karting and attended the Karting Academy’s run by Steve Bell. In fact he loved it so much that last year we held his 9th Birthday party at the Eastleigh Indoor Go Karting Track and it was the memory of this that gave us the idea to run this charity event.
Our intention now is to run this championship again next year with the the support of Team Sport, who own the track, and Racing Perfections’ Steve Bell, with monies raised going to the Joe Glover Trust.
One of young drivers said ‘I had great fun, it was awesome racing my friends and I can’t wait for next year’s Go Karting Championship’ – Thomas Croft Baker, Age 9.)
